Canada Basketball – MANCHESTER, ENGLAND (June 18, 2019) – Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team fell to Great Britain 67-53 on Wednesday afternoon to wrap up their European exhibition tournament.

Ruth Hamblin led Canada in scoring with 13 points while Kayla Alexander contributed 12 points and nine rebounds. Miranda Ayim had six points and Miah-Marie Langlois had five points for Canada in the loss. Great Britain was led by Karlie Samuelson and Johannah Leedham who recorded 16 each.

Starting the game off with a 7-0 run, Great Britain made it difficult for Canada to catch up in the first quarter. By the end of the first, Canada was trailing Great Britain 19-7 entering the second quarter.

Canada outscored Great Britain 17-10 in the second quarter and shrunk the deficit to just five points. Though their efforts were not enough, as Great Britain entered the halftime up 29-24.

Great Britain outscored Canada by one point in the third quarter and the Canadians entered the fourth quarter down by just six points. Looking to make a comeback in the fourth, Canada and Great Britain went back and forth to open the quarter.

Canada managed to get the deficit down to as low as one point at the 4:45 mark. Unfortunately, Great Britain’s efficient shooting gave them the advantage and they took the victory by 14 points.

The team will participate in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2019 and Lima 2019 Pan-Am Games, as well as the FIBA Women’s Pre-Qualifying Tournaments in Americas this fall.
