BC to Host Full Spectrum of World Championship Qualifying Events

Triathlon BC – With a record number of athletes lining up to represent Canada at the 2020 Grand Final World Championships in Edmonton next July, Triathlon BC will continue to push the Age Group World Championship Qualifying excitement into 2020, where motivated athletes will vie for age group spots to compete at the 2021 World Multisport Championships (Australia) and 2021 Grand Final World Championships (Bermuda).

Age group athletes from across Canada will have the opportunity to earn the right to represent the Maple Leaf in six different disciplines next year; Aquabike, Cross Triathlon, Duathlon and Sprint, Standard and Long Distance Triathlon, events that have been sprinkled strategically throughout the race calendar.

Triathlon Canada’s Age-Group World Championship Teams consist of top performing athletes who earn a spot at provincial qualification race, going on to represent Canada on the world stage at the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Championships. Team members have the unique opportunity to proudly represent their country, participate in a unique team environment and celebrate their sport within the global multisport community.

“In a world where participation in a World Championship is, more often then not, limited to elite athletes,  the opportunity for Age Group athletes to represent a Nation at a major World Championship is unique, said Allan Prazsky, Executive Director of Triathlon BC,  “it’s phenomenal what these athletes do, we need to celebrate these committed individuals pursuing excellence across every age category.”

The ITU holds both Multisport World Championships, consisting of Aquabike, Aquathlon, Duathlon, Cross Triathlon and Long Distance Triathlon, and the Grand Final, hosting the World Championships in Sprint and Standard Distance Triathlon. Held in a different location every year, the World Championships and the Grand Final attract thousands of like-minded, top performing, destination-minded age group athletes from around the world, and mark the end of the season for elite athletes.
