Sidney – The BC Seniors Games Society (BCSGS) is pleased to announce the addition of Aart Looye as President and Sharon Davies as Chair of the Marketing & Sponsorship Committee. Both were acclaimed after the Annual General Meeting on September 17, 2020.

Aart brings a wealth of event management experience to the Society. He was an Events Chair for the Spirit of the Sea Festival where he organized and managed media, committees, entertainment, transportation, fundraising and volunteers. He was a race director for Envision Triathlon at Crescent Beach and has held several sport administration positions in swimming and triathlon.

“I am excited to take on this challenging and important position,” he says. “The next few years will be like nothing we’ve ever experienced in the past but we believe we have the team in place to have many successes.”

Sharon has extensive knowledge in marketing, strategic planning, community engagement, fundraising and plenty of board experience. She also plays soccer, dragonboat and pickleball and has participated and organized many 50+ women’s soccer teams for tournaments including the World Masters Games in Torino in 2013 and Auckland in 2017. “I’m excited to serve on the board of the BCSGS,” says Davies. “I look forward to playing a small part in encouraging 55+ athletes to participate and implement a healthy and active lifestyle.” As a Development Officer for Victoria Hospice, she was instrumental in creating a successful new signature event, surpassing fundraising goals and establishing opportunities for new donors.

“I look forward to this next era for the BC Seniors Games Society,” adds Past President, Cindy Simpson. “We have some challenges ahead of us but I’m confident with the volunteers we have in place, the future of the organization looks very strong.”

Each year the Games attract approximately 3,600 participants and require approximately 1,200 volunteers to stage and deliver the Games in the Host Community. Participant registration for the Greater Victoria 2021 55+ BC Games will open March 1, 2021. For more information about the 55+ BC Games, visit www.55plusbcgames.org.
