BC Rugby – Draws will take place on both days at BC Place on March 9-10

Over 70,000 fans are expected to pack the stands over the two-day tournament,
with the potential to raise a significant amount of money for two worthwhile causes.

Vancouver, BC – February 25, 2019:  BC Rugby and Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon have joined forces to present the 50/50 draw at the 2019 HSBC Canada Sevens, with draws taking place on both days. This will be a fantastic opportunity for two lucky winners while supporting two worthwhile causes.

The 2019 HSBC Canada Sevens tournament is set to be the biggest sporting event in BC this year, with an anticipated crowd of over 70,000.  Rugby fans are known globally for their high spirits, camaraderie and family spirit and have given generously to previous 50/50 draws, with the 2018 HSBC Canada Sevens generating a combined jackpot in excess of $60,000.

Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon was the first Canadian Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the first chapter outside of the United States.  Since 1983, they have granted over 2,100 wishes for children in our region and their work grows ever more important.

From meeting sporting heroes to being a paramedic or firefighter for a day, taking tropical family holidays and everything in between, wishes are as unique as the kids who make them.  As the foundation likes to put it “We have four categories of wishes: ‘I wish to go’‘I wish to be’, ‘I wish to have’ and ‘I wish to meet’ and these wishes mean everything to the kids battling a critical illness, as well as to their families who provide round the clock care and emotional support.”

For many of the recipients, these wishes are a catalyst to help them find hope in the darkest moments.  It is thanks to the support of generous people from all over BC and the Yukon that Make-A-Wish can continue to make each magical wish a reality.

BC Rugby raises funds to support the delivery of rugby in elementary schools, aboriginal friendship centres, local community groups and beyond.  They also provide programs and a pathway for aspiring young athletes to compete at provincial, national and eventually international competitions.

Funds from the 50/50 draw will help both of these organisations to continue to make a positive impact on the lives of thousands of BC residents.  Tickets for the draw will be available throughout both days of the 2019 HSBC Canada Sevens tournament, sold by volunteers across the BC Stadium.  Tickets will be cash only, so make sure to bring plenty of bills to be in for a chance to win.
