LAC LA BICHE, AB – The 3D Indoor Championships took place at Lac La Biche in Alberta this weekend. Over 130 archers across multiple different age categories and equipment classes participated. The weekend started with three 3D qualification rounds, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. The event then wrapped up with the Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon.
While the majority of the participants were from Alberta, largely due to the late change of host and related conflicts with other events, some of the categories were won by out-of-province participants. Reid Jonasson (MB) won the U21 (junior) compound category with a score of 788 over the three courses, whereas Miranda Sparkes (BC) won the senior longbow category with a score of 608 from all the courses.
This event signifies a return to in-person competition at a national level. While originally slated to be hosted in Cape Breton, NS, due to the restrictions at the time, the event was then postponed. Lakeland Archers in Lac La Biche then stepped up to host, leading to a huge success!
“The last two years have been challenging for everyone and it was great to come together again and compete,” says Aaron Bull, president of Archery Canada. “The Lakeland Archers were great hosts of the event and we look forward to returning to the area in June for the 3D World Championships selection trials!”
The next events on the national docket are as follows:
- Canada Cup West (Winnipeg, MB): June 10-12, 2022
- Canada Cup East (Quebec City, QC): June 24-26, 2022
- Outdoor 3D, field, target championships (PE): July 15-25, 2022
