2020 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games – Welcome Home to Team NS this Sunday, March 1st

Team Nova Scotia will be arriving home following an exhausting yet exhilarating week of competition, travel, friend raising, and bonding at the 2020 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Thunder Bay ON.

45 athletes competing in 7 sports (Bowling, Curling, Figure Skating, Floor Hockey, Snowshoe, Speed Skating and Cross Country Skiing) lead and supported by 13 coaches and 6 Mission Staff will arrive at Stanfield International Airport, Sunday, March 1 at 6 pm on Porter Airlines Flight PD247.

Family and friends will be there to greet and welcome home their loved ones.

We are proud of the hard work and dedication of our athletes and their coaches. Athletes ranged in age from their mid-teens to over 70 years of age representing communities from across our province.

There are many accomplishments during the week. Some highlights included, Dylan Taylor captured Gold in the 5 Km as our only Cross Country Skier. Scott Denyes and Kerrie McGenn captured the Gold Medal in pairs freestyle and,  Brittany Vey winning a BRONZE medal at Speed Skating in the 111m race.

Special Olympics Canada Winter Games take place every four years. Athletes qualify to compete through regional and provincial/territorial competitions. The competition provides Canadian athletes with an ID a competitive opportunity and venue to pursue excellence and qualify for Special Olympics World Games.
