McMaster University is on the lookout for a dynamic Head Coach to lead our Women’s Basketball team. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of a program with a legacy of excellence at the OUA and U SPORTS levels.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced basketball coach who is eager to develop elite student-athletes and lead a basketball program that is poised for continued success. As the Head Coach, you will have the chance to build on our history, inspire the next generation of student-athletes, and make a lasting impact on and off the court.

About the Role

Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director, the Women’s Basketball Head Coach will be at the forefront of Student-Athlete development, strategic leadership, and program growth. This is an opportunity to mentor high-performing student-athletes, build a championship-caliber team, and contribute to the broader university community.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Management

  • Oversee all aspects of the Women’s Basketball program, including team strategy, training, competition, and player development.
  • Recruit, lead, and manage assistant coaches and support staff, ensuring a high-performance culture.
  • Manage the program’s budget, fundraising efforts, and revenue generation initiatives.
  • Foster relationships with local, provincial, and national sport agencies to enhance program visibility and opportunities.

Student-Athlete Development

  • Create a Student-Athlete-centered program that supports both academic and athletic excellence.
  • Guide and mentor players through their development, ensuring success on and off the court.
  • Collaborate with strength and conditioning staff, sports medicine professionals, and academic support teams to optimize Student-Athlete performance.
  • Serve as a role model, instilling values of sportsmanship, integrity, and commitment.

Recruitment & Talent Acquisition

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment strategy to attract and retain high-caliber student-athletes.
  • Build strong relationships with prospective athletes, club teams, and high school programs to maintain a pipeline of talent.
  • Coordinate and oversee campus visits and recruitment events.

Technical Excellence

  • Plan and execute a year-round training program that prepares student-athletes for peak performance.
  • Analyze team and opponent performance using video analysis, scouting reports, and other data to optimize strategies.
  • Ensure safe and effective training environments, aligning with the latest best practices in safe sport & sports science.

Community Engagement & Program Growth

  • Strengthen alumni and community relations through strategic outreach and engagement.
  • Lead fundraising initiatives to build a strong financial foundation for the program.
  • Oversee camps, clinics, and community initiatives to promote the sport and grow the next generation of talent.

What We’re Looking For

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Kinesiology, or a related field.
  • Recognized Coaching Certification (NCCP or equivalent).

Experience

  • 5+ years of coaching experience at the post-secondary, provincial, or national level.
  • Proven success in high-performance sports environments, with experience managing all aspects of a competitive basketball program.
  • Experience in sports administration, including budget management, recruitment, and program development.
