PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Education is responsible for overseeing ASRAB’s engagement with the Education community.  The role will support students with low vision in the education system and assist educators to integrate students into physical education classes and activities. The role promotes ASRAB programming and opportunities, introduces adaptive sport to schools, and builds relationships with educators, school boards, and partner agencies across Alberta.

Specific duties include:

  • Attend and / or engage Regional Program Leads for commitments to Regional Teachers Conventions, including presentations.
  • Promote the use of ASRAB’s Sport Modules, with a goal to ensure all students with low vision are included in physical education. Oversee development of new sport modules.
  • Collaborating with the School Sport Alberta to promote VI-inclusive sport opportunities (including athletics and cross-country competitions).
  • Coordinate regional adaptive school sport days in conjunction with Program Leads and TVIs in all active communities (indoor/winter sports in fall and outdoor/summer sports in spring).
  • Delivering goalball demonstrations in schools throughout Alberta, and using the opportunity to promote goalball opportunities for students.
  • Work with Physical Educators to support adapting sport for students with low vision.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and youth with disabilities, preferably vision impairment.
  • Knowledge of inclusive physical education practices and sport adaptation.
