Head Coach Position – Full Time
The Fredericton Aquanauts Swim Team (FAST) is a leading swim club in Fredericton, New Brunswick ,and we are seeking a Full-Time Head Coach starting September 01, 2025. FAST is a competitive swim club established in 1969 that has developed many National, Provincial and Regional swimmers. We are a growing club with a well-established pre-competitive program. We are seeking an innovative, passionate and swimmer-focused coach for all of our age group swimmers. The following areas will be the head coach’s priorities
Program Development – the Head Coach is expected to develop and implement a season plan which is followed by the coaching staff, is aligned with FAST’s vision, and focuses on performance at Regional, Provincial and National Swim Meets
Athlete Engagement – the Head Coach is expected to ensure the athlete experience is the highest possible for every age group and ability. This is through direct engagement with all athletes in a fun and supportive environment where the team is brought together for group activities and team building outside of the pool
Coach Mentorship – it is incumbent upon the Head Coach to provide leadership and inspiration to their assistant coaches. Responsibilities will include: mentoring Coaches, providing them with constructive feedback, ensuring they are meeting expectations in swimmer development, and contributing to growth of a positive team culture.
Program Administration/Reporting – it is expected that progress through the season will be regularly reported on including notable athlete and team performances, athlete/family engagement, coach enrichment, as well as feedback on performance of coaching staff to evaluate their progress and ensure they are fulfilling their roles.
Provincial Engagement- It is expected that the Head Coach will take an active role and be engaged with the Provincial sector through active participation and leadership
Successful candidates will:
- Be interested in coaching as a long-term career
- Have strong technical knowledge of competitive stroke mechanics and a desire and the ability to continue learning about progressive coaching techniques
- Have a passion for coaching swimmers and investing in their long-term development, consistent with the Long-Term Athlete Development Program
- Have NCCP level 2, level 3 preferred
- Have exceptional organizational skills
- Be an effective communicator with athletes, coaches, pool staff, parents, other stakeholders
- Be a keen motivator and educator with effective teaching skills and the interest and ability to build on your experience in this area
- Be knowledgeable with Hytek, and have general computer skills
- Understand the nature of being a coach includes non- traditional working hours. Working evenings, weekends and holidays is a regular occurrence and expected of the head coach
- Be a member in good standing with CSCA, be willing to provide and pass a criminal record and vulnerable sector check
You will have the opportunity to work with several different swimmer groups (from Pre-Competitive to Performance).
