New research shows that children and adolescents are lonelier now than they were before the COVID-19 pandemic. In some cases, more than half of the children and adolescents studied were experiencing moderate levels of loneliness. This is significant because higher levels of loneliness were associated with poorer well-being, including depression, anxiety, and sleep problems.
In this webinar, experts and thought leaders will discuss how sport and physical activity can play a role in reducing loneliness and improving mental health among children and youth as the world recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tune in for a moderated discussion with:
- Moderator Veronica Allan, PhD, Long-Term Development Advisor with Sport for Life and the Manager of Research and Innovation at SIRC,
- Tracy Vaillancourt, PhD, Professor and Canada Research Chair in School-based Mental Health and Violence Prevention at the University of Ottawa,
- Brandon Frith, Toronto North Soccer Club U15-U17 coach and University of Ottawa MA Candidate, and
- Bryan Heal, Social Impact Research Lead at MLSE LaunchPad.
