The 30th Winter Universiade in 2021 will take place in Central Switzerland. This marks the first time the Winter Universiade returns to Switzerland since the second edition of the event back in 1962 in nearby Villars. With the FISU headquarters in Switzerland and a first-rate organising committee in place, the Winter Universiade’s return to the Swiss Alps will make for an incredible event.
With its mountainous landscape Central Switzerland is not only the cradle of the Swiss Confederation, it’s also one of the birthplaces of winter sports and tourism. With both the region’s existing infrastructure and expertise in winter sport combined with the area’s long tradition of hospitality, Lucerne 2021 organisers want to make their guest feel comfortable. To express this core value of Central Switzerland alongside the excitement of the Universiade’s return to Switzerland after 59 years, Lucerne 2021 organisers have chosen the motto ‘welcome home’.
