Saskatchewan Wheelchair Sports Association (SWSA) in partnership with Saskatchewan Blind Sports Association (SBSA) is seeking an individual who can build relationships, direct change, support participant and member needs, innovate, and champion the values and vision of the group’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) goals and strategic direction. 

The IDEA Community Outreach Consultant will help build connections between the partnership and the community; helping expand access to adaptive sports. They will recruit and support athletes, raise awareness about available opportunities, and educate individuals, communities and service providers to support the sustainable development of adaptive sport in Saskatchewan.

This role requires someone who can build meaningful relationships within the community in order to increase adaptive sport participation. Responsibilities include:

The Consultant will encourage and support themselves and others in seeking new ideas and opportunities to address challenges and opportunities.  Responsibilities include:

  • Assessment & Continuous Improvement
  • Policy & Practice Development

Supporting Participant and Member Needs

Being able to understand and address the needs of individuals with disabilities is essential to creating an inclusive and meaningful adaptive sport experience. Responsibilities include:

  • Participant Recruitment
  • Facilitating Connections
  • Education & Advocacy

Driving Innovation

The Consultant will be able to generate innovative solutions by implementing different and novel ways to address problems and opportunities.  Responsibilities include:

  • Leveraging Diverse Resources
  • Strategic Recruitment & Retention
  • Collaborative Growth & Inclusion

Championing the Values and Vision

Advancing IDEA requires thoughtful action and a commitment to creating meaningful change. Responsibilities would include:

  • Advocacy & Awareness
  • Self-Reflection & Growth
  • Community Collaboration
  • Strategic Influence

The applicant should have the following skills, knowledge and abilities:

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and supervisory skills
  • Ability to work within a volunteer association as a staff member
  • Initiative, leadership, and passion for sport
  • Ability to represent the organization in a positive and proactive manner
  • Proficient in the use of technology and ability to adapt to new and emerging technologies.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge of the principles of IDEA and programs, initiatives, or actions that improve the state of inclusion.
  • Ability to provide a Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Verification prior to being employed.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs

Desired Qualifications:

  • Degree/diploma in recreation, sports administration or related discipline
  • Knowledge of adaptive sport and/or not-for-profit sport sector

This is a full time, one year position with the possibility of renewal.

This job will be based in Saskatoon.
