POSITION: MANAGER OF REFEREES
OVERVIEW
Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association (NLSA) is seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual for its Manager of Referees position. The MOR will be responsible for providing administration, development, and oversight for all NLSA Referee matters.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Referee Administration
- Develop an independent Referee Development Committee for Newfoundland & Labrador under the guidance of the Manager of Referees.
- Responsibility for leading the Assessor and Instructor programs for Newfoundland & Labrador.
- Represent the Referee Development Program on all internal NLSA meetings.
- Coordinate with other NLSA staff to manage the registration and control of referees.
- Receive and process Referee Dismissal Reports and Special Incident reports.
- Serve as a liaison with Canada Soccer, other provinces, and all leagues and competitions for all matters related to Refereeing.
- Develop and Manage the scope and budget for a long-term, comprehensive Referee Development Program for NLSA (10-year plan).
- Work with NLSA Member Clubs to ensure referee onboarding, education, development, and mentoring.
- Manager of Referees would be required to sit on the NLSA Competitions Committee for continuity and communication.
Referee Development Programs
- Build and maintain relationships with PSO Referee Directors.
- Coordinate with Referee Instructors to ensure annual refresher and entry-level material is prepared and delivered in accordance with Canada Soccer and NLSA policies.
- Coordinate with NLSA Staff and Referee Instructors to implement annual refresher and entry-level programs.
- Coordinate with Referee Instructors to arrange for development of regular in-service training for referees and, when necessary, regional referee upgrading courses.
- Arrange for education sessions for Assessors and Instructors to ensure they meet accreditation requirements as set by Canada Soccer.
- Ensure new and developing Referees receive appropriate mentoring feedback and are upgraded in a timely manner.
- Maintain records – referee assessments, work completed by Assessors and Instructors, referee mentor reports, submitted discipline reports.
- Attend games and events around the province and provide and/or assist with mentor education & support.
- Lead and execute the education, certification, and management of qualified referees to support a Provincial Futsal Competition.
Skills & Qualifications
- Past or current experience and involvement with soccer, preferably as a referee.
- Experience with Google Workspace tools including Google Slides, Google Sheets, and Google Docs.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Excellent relationship-building skills.
Skills & Qualifications (Assets)
- Interest, aptitude, and ability as a referee mentor, instructor, and assessor.
