MONTREAL, QUEBEC The worlds best short track speed skaters will converge in Montreal next month for the ISU World Short Track Championships, which has been officially rescheduled from March 18-20 to April 8-10, 2022. This will be the first international short track event hosted in Canada since the Four Continents Championships in January 2020.
On the heels of winning an impressive four medals at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, Canadas short track team will have the opportunity to cap off their season on home ice at the Maurice Richard Arena. This years World Championships will also mark the end of the road for the legendary Charles Hamelin, who will hang up his skates and enter retirement following the competition.

This years World Short Track Championship were originally set to take place in Montreal from March 18-20, 2022; however, the International Skating Union and Speed Skating Canada made the joint decision to reschedule them due to recent developments concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine.
It will mark the fourth time that Montreal will host this prestigious event following the Olympics Games, having previously done so after PyeongChang 2018, Sochi 2014 and Salt Lake City 2002. Canada also hosted the event in Montreal in 1987, Moncton in 1982 and Quebec City in 1979.
When Canada hosted the event in 2018, sell-out crowds witnessed history as Charles Hamelin became the first Canadian in 20 years to be crowned overall World Champion. All eyes will be on Hamelin again this time around, as the 37-year old six-time Olympic medalist will lace up his skates for the final time before officially retiring from the sport following a distinguished 20-year international career.
Hamelin will be joined on home ice by fellow Beijing 2022 mens relay medalist Steven Dubois, Pascal Dion, Maxime Laoun and Jordan Pierre-Gilles, as well as 500m bronze medalist and world record holder Kim Boutin. Canadas full lineup will be finalized and announced in the coming weeks.
