Feb. 02, 2022: Volleyball Canada is pleased to confirm that 7 Chiefs Sportsplex & Chief Jim Starlight Centre will be the site of the womens Volleyball Nations League (VNL), this June 28 to July 03.
The facility is a world-class sports and events centre founded on the rich heritage and principles of the Tsuutina Nation, just outside of Calgary, Alberta.
The 2022 FIVB Volleyball Nations League features 16 mens and 16 womens participating teams fighting for VNL supremacy at venues in Europe, North America, South America and Asia starting this May. This years edition has a new, dynamic format which includes teams competing in pools of eight, and the top eight teams per gender, including the host, then moving to the final knockout phase of the competition.
We are excited to host VNL at 7 Chiefs Sportsplex this year, as the management and staff have already demonstrated a desire to showcase their facility and create a unique volleyball experience, said Alan Ahac, Director of International Events for Volleyball Canada. Along with the Canadian womens team, week three of VNL in Calgary will host the Olympic gold medalist U.S.A., Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey, Germany, Japan and Serbia.

Chief Jim Starlight, who led his people from 1952 to 1966, hoped the Centre would become a beacon for all communities, where they could gather and grow together. Developing the 7 Chiefs Sportsplex was a part of his vision for the future of the Tsuutina Nation.
At 228,000 square feet, the expansive 7 Chiefs Sportsplex & Chief Jim Starlight Centre is a vibrant and inclusive complex where everyone is welcome. As one of the largest sporting and fitness facility in western Canada, it offers a multi-discipline environment where teams and individuals from beginners to professionals can thrive. The impressive 45,000 sq. ft. Chief Jim Starlight Centre is ideal to host local, national, or international gatherings, events, and competitions.
More information on ticketing will be released in the coming weeks. As previously announced, the mens team will play at the Arena at TD Place in Ottawa, Ontario, from June 7 to 12. Ticket package information will be available later this month.
