Volleyball Canada Congratulate Shacarra Orr on being Named Athlete Ambassador for the Lima 2019 Canadian Para Pan AmTeam

Volleyball Canada – August 1, 2019: A former setter for Volleyball Canada’s sitting program, Shacarra Orr has been selected as the Canadian Paralympic Committee’s Athlete Parapan Ambassador for the Lima 2019 Am Games. Orr was selected from a pool of athlete alumni applicants and is the first in this new role, which the CPC is looking to expand in the future.

The Athlete Ambassador will provide support to Chef de Mission Stephanie Dixon, athletes, and the entire Canadian Parapan Am Team during the Lima Games.

Shacarra, who is from Jaffray, B.C., joined Volleyball Canada’s sitting program in 2013 after a car accident left her with a permanent disability in her right arm. Prior to her accident, Shacarra excelled in both club and high school volleyball.

In the 2015 edition of the Parapan American Games in Toronto, Orr was ranked in the top 10 for scoring with 28 points, which earned Canada a bronze medal and berth to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Shacarra helped Team Canada earn its seventh place finish at the Rio Games.

“I am thrilled to be involved in the Para community again following my retirement from sitting volleyball,” said Orr. “I am excited to be on the other side and provide athletes with the support they need to perform their best in these Games. I feel blessed to be working for a movement I am so passionate about.”

The 2019 Parapan American Games will take place August 23 to September 1 in Lima, Peru, with sitting volleyball set to begin pool play August 24.
