Volleyball Canada – January 17, 2019:  Volleyball Canada today announced that its new official indoor volleyball will be supplied by Mikasa. The agreement signed with Mikasa Canada will begin immediately and run through to 2024.

“We are thrilled to be involved as the exclusive indoor volleyball supplier of Volleyball Canada for the coming years,” said Félix Dion, owner of Catsports, and official distributor of Mikasa Canada. “Mikasa Canada is already a partner with almost all of Volleyball Canada’s provincial and territorial association members, so the new partnership will help standardize the use of Mikasa balls for all playing levels across the country.”

Mikasa has served as the official volleyball supplier of the International Volleyball Federation’s (FIVB) events since 1985, while also supplying all Olympic Games dating back to the sport’s debut in Tokyo in 1964. Mikasa, which has its headquarters in Japan, will continue to supply all FIVB events at the beach and indoor levels for the next several years, including the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

“The move to Mikasa allows us to align our national ball with that which is used in the majority of our provinces and territories and at our international events. The wide range of Mikasa ball models will also allow us to use a ball that is developmentally appropriate for all age classes in Canada,” said Kerry MacDonald, Volleyball Canada’s Director of Sport Science, Medicine and Innovation.

In addition to being used by Canada’s indoor national teams, Mikasa will be designated as an official sponsor of VC’s National Championships, Regional Excellence Programs, Canada Cup and other domestic competitions. Mikasa will also be the recommended ball for Volleyball Canada youth programs.

“We strongly believe that the actions that Volleyball Canada is taking are very important for the development of the sport of volleyball, from grassroots to excellence, from beginners to high performance athletes in Canada,” said Félix Dion. “We are looking forward to this partnership and helping to grow the sport in Canada.”
