U SPORTS has announced the hosts for its men’s and women’s cross-country and women’s and men’s soccer championships through the 2026 season, the 2027 track and field championship and the 2028 men’s volleyball championship.
The Université de Sherbrooke has been awarded the 2025 Cross-Country Championships, while McMaster University in Hamilton will host the 2026 edition.
McMaster will host the U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Championships in 2025 and UBC in Vancouver in 2026, while the University of Victoria will host the 2026 U SPORTS Men’s Soccer Championships.
The 2027 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships will take place at the University of Manitoba, while the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon will host the 2028 U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship.
“We have been impressed by the quality of the bids presented by each host selected for this cycle,” said Matthew Davies, U SPORTS Chief Sport Officer. “Each championship venue provides student-athletes the opportunity to compete in outstanding facilities, as every host has a strong track record of delivering memorable experiences for participants and fans.”
Highlights of the championship sites include:
2025 CROSS COUNTRY
- In partnership with the Ville de Sherbrooke and Tourism Sherbrooke, the Université de Sherbrooke will host its first U SPORTS championship since the 2017 swimming championships.
- This is the fourth time that the U de S has hosted the U SPORTS Cross-Country Championships, with previous races taking place in 1985, 2001, and 2010.
- Sherbrooke aims to win its first U SPORTS women’s team title and second men’s championship. The only title they have won is in Montreal, in 1992.
2026 CROSS COUNTRY
- McMaster will host the U SPORTS cross-country championships for the first time in school history in 2026 when racers from across the country descend on the Christie Lake Conservation Area for the 8-km races.
- McMaster seeks its second men’s team title and first since 2022 on the home course, while the women’s squad will look to earn its first national title.
2025 WOMEN’S SOCCER
- The McMaster Marauders will host the U SPORTS women’s soccer championship for the second time in their history and the first time in over three decades in November 2025. The Marauders last hosted the event in 1992, finishing in fourth place.
- McMaster is competing for its second women’s soccer national title. Its previous championship was secured in the 1991 CIAU Final, a commanding 8-2 victory against McGill at the University of Guelph.
2026 WOMEN’S SOCCER
- The UBC Thunderbirds will look to extend their U SPORTS record number of women’s soccer gold medals to 10 when they host the 2026 championship.
- Thunderbird Stadium has hosted the national women’s university title game three times (1988, 1990, 2015), with UBC lifting the Gladys Bean Memorial Trophy at home in 2015.
2026 MEN’S SOCCER
- The U SPORTS Men’s Soccer Championship returns to the British Columbia capital for the fifth time in 2026 (previously hosted in 1975, 1978, 1999, and 2011) as the University of Victoria welcomes the country’s eight best men’s university programs to Centennial Stadium.
- UVic has won five national titles, most recently in 2011, when the Vikes last hosted the U SPORTS tournament.
2027 TRACK AND FIELD
- The James Daly Fieldhouse at the University of Manitoba will host its ninth U SPORTS men’s track and field championship, previously held in 1988, 1990, 1992, 1995, 2005, 2012, 2019, and 2024, as well as its seventh women’s championship, previously held in 1988, 1995, 2005, 2012, 2019, and 2024, in 2027.
- The Bisons have won four of their seven men’s national team titles in the Fieldhouse, the most recent being in 1995.
2028 MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
- The U SPORTS men’s volleyball championship returns to the University of Saskatchewan in 2028 for the third time. The university previously hosted the 1980 and 2015 events.
- The Huskies are competing for their fifth national crown and first since 2004. Saskatchewan has competed for fifth place the last two times it hosted.
The 2025 U SPORTS winter championship season begins next weekend with the BioSteel U SPORTS Track and Field Championships in Windsor, Ont., and the U SPORTS Swimming Championships at the University of Toronto, both running from March 6-8.
The U SPORTS Final 8 basketball championships will be held at UBC in Vancouver from March 13 to 16, while the U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship will be held at the University of Manitoba from March 14 to 16.
The championship season concludes over the weekend of March 20-23, with three titles up for grabs. The puck drops for the University Cup on March 20 in Ottawa, while the U SPORTS Women’s Hockey Championship occurs simultaneously at the Woolwich Memorial Centre in Elmira, Ont. Brandon University will host the U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship for the first time, commencing on March 21.
All championships will be available on CBC Sports’ digital platforms, including CBC Gem, CBCSports.ca, and CBC Sports’ YouTube channel.
