True Sport Spotlight: Escrime Mont-Royal

Escrime Mont-Royal (EMR) was first introduced to True Sport through the Coaching Association of Canada and 2015 RBC Sports Day in Canada. The True Sport Principles resonated with the Montreal-based fencing club; they became a member shortly thereafter and proudly posted the principles in their facilities.

EMR Chairperson, active coach, athlete, referee, tournament secretary and armorer, Peter McLaughlin’s advice to anyone looking to start their True Sport journey is to, “Begin it now! Start with the True Sport Principles, sign the declaration and spread the word. Let people around you know that you believe that sport should be open, welcoming and safe for all involved.”

Introducing the True Sport Team!

Have you ever wondered what the True Sport Principles in action would look like, sound like, and feel like? Get ready to meet the True Sport Team – a group of characters that bring each of the principles to life in meaningful ways. Over the coming weeks, you can look forward to meeting the team and learning about each of their unique True Sport strengths and stories. As individuals, they are impressive and as a team, they represent all that is good in sport.

First up is Sara-Amélie or S-A, as her friends call her. S-A represents the True Sport Principle Go For It because she’s not afraid to try new things, she challenges herself, and she never gives up!

A new team member will be introduced each week so be sure to check out the website, download the social media tiles and share them online. Follow us on social to meet the team and tell us how you relate to them and what they mean to you. Tag @TrueSport, use #TrueSport, and the principle-specific hashtag(s) to join the conversation online!

True Sport Activations

True Sport Activations went virtual this year and they were a great success! These sessions inspire staff at national and provincial sport organizations to activate True Sport in their policies, practices, programs and to use True Sport as a tool to foster system alignment and engage their stakeholders.

This year’s activation sessions have resulted in some innovative True Sport initiatives on social media, such as BC Artistic Swimming’s #TrueSportTuesdays and Field Hockey Ontario’s #TrueSportSaturdays.

Thank you to all of the organizations that engaged in meaningful conversations and are working to embed True Sport in their work. A big thank you to Dina Bell-Laroche of Sport Law and Strategy Group for facilitating the activation sessions!
