True Sport Spotlight: True Sport Lives Here New Brunswick
In December 2022, Sport New Brunswick launched True Sport Lives Here New Brunswick, a province-wide initiative that demonstrates their commitment to values-based sport. Building on the leadership and work of True Sport Lives Here Manitoba, Sport New Brunswick started work on the Envisioning Sport Project in the fall of 2021, with the aim of building a stronger, more valued provincial sport system that increases participation and supports athletes. |True Sport Champion Spotlight: Susan Steele|
As Vice President of United DFC Soccer Club in Nova Scotia and an elementary school physical education (P.E.) teacher, Susan Steele noticed that kids were struggling to have fun, play fair, and include everyone. After attending a True Sport presentation at a PHE Canada conference, she was inspired by the True Sport Principles and the framework they provide to create a positive culture for her students and athletes. Susan has been a True Sport Champion ever since!
Recently, Susan presented her True Sport journey to local elementary school P.E. teachers. “As I described my journey, I felt validated by the reactions and excitement of the other professionals in the room that they were sharing similar experiences and, like me, saw the value of True Sport as a framework for values-based education in their physical education classrooms. As P.E. teachers, we teach all the students in a school and really can have an impact on everyone.”
“I believe that if schools and community sport clubs at all levels cultivated and valued the True Sport Principles in their students and athletes, then something really special would happen.”
