“Providing race opportunities for passionate triathletes in all corners of the country is critical to the growth of our sport,” said Joe Morissette, chief executive officer, Triathlon Canada. “We are so fortunate to have dedicated and enthusiastic organizing committees across the country to provide our community with these opportunities. We look forward to working with each of them, along with our provincial partners, to put on world-leading events that allow our community to put themselves on a start line in their region and test their limits.”

Triathlon Canada will also play host to two major international competitions. The 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series Montreal will bring elite and age group athletes from around the world to Montreal’s Grand Quai from June 24-25. The Junior National Championships and U23 Mixed Team Relay National Championships will be held in conjunction with the race weekend.

Canada’s top Paratriathletes will also welcome the world to Montreal, July 8-9. The World Paratriathlon Series on July 8 will also feature Triathlon Canada’s Elite and U23 National Championships. An exciting new Para Mixed Team Relay as part of the World Series will taking place on July 9 in Parc Jean Drapeau Montreal.  New this year, an America’s Triathlon Cup has been added to the weekend.

A second Americas Triathlon Cup has also been added to the 2023 calendar in Edmonton for August 26th.  With a new venue at Kinsmen Park, this race will feature a river swim and technical bike course.

“We are continuously looking for innovative ways to bring together our elite and development level high-performance athletes from the Olympic and Paralympic streams with our passionate age group community,” added Morissette. “Hosting major events at the highest level of competition not only provides home field advantage, but staging new and spectator friendly formats also has the power to make a positive impact on our nation, inspiring all to swim, bike and run.”

In an effort to better prepare more young Canadian triathletes for elite international competition, Triathlon Canada will continue its National Development Series for 2023 in cooperation with its provincial sport organizations.

Focused on providing more domestic race opportunities for junior and under-23 athletes ages 16-23 who are making the transition into World Triathlon racing through Triathlon Canada’s podium pathway, the domestic series will be expanded to six race opportunities to support the development of Canadian athletes and coaches.

“This development race series is a critical to increasing the talent pool and supporting Canada’s next generation of elite triathletes in achieving their performance goals,” said Morissette. “Experience, exposure and cost-effective opportunities to train and race are key to the progression of high-performance athletes. We feel this series will continue to serve as a key talent identification tool for our national program.”

A comprehensive program for Age Group World Championship qualification will continue to take shape in 2023.  Several of our Provincial Sport Organizations are still working through final allocation of qualifying spots within their regions.  We will continue to update the calendar as more races are confirmed.
