Diving Canada – SANTIAGO, Chile – Loic Tremblay of Quebec City and Isa Koop of Edmonton each won gold as Canadian divers steamrolled to six more medals on Saturday at the Pan Am Junior Championships.

Canada has 19 medals so far with five gold, seven silver and seven bronze for second overall. Mexico is first at 9-5-4 while the U.S. is third at 5-6-4.

Tremblay topped the field in the boys 12-13 three-metre with 352.55 points. Bennett Greene of the U.S. was second at 332.15 and Jesus Miguel Agundez Mora of Mexico third at 328.10. 

Koop collected her second medal of the competition with 223.10 points. Kayla Jensen of the U.S. took the silver at 210.10 and Montserrat Carreon Benavides of Mexico was third at 206.00. Lila Stewart of Regina was a close fourth at 203.65.

‘’It kind of felt easy to me because one-metre is my best event,’’ said Koop, 11, third on three-metre on Thursday. ‘’Having that first day of competition behind me helped me feel more relaxed today, plus there weren’t as many hard dives as I had on three-metres.’’

Canada earned two medals on girls 14-15 three-metre. Maria Jose Sanchez Moreno of Mexico was the victor with 377.55. Tatianna Conn of Markham, Ont., was second at 362.65 and Katelyn Fung of London, Ont., third at 321.90.

‘’I just had to remind myself to breathe and stay calm,’’ said Conn, with a gold and two silver so far. ‘’I focused on the corrections my coach gave me.

Fung is now up to one gold, one silver and two bronze after three days of competition.

‘’After my first optional my knees had buckled,’’ said Fung. ‘’I just had to get my head back in the game and I knew I couldn’t give up because there was still a chance to medal. I had to push myself until the last dive.’’

 

On men’s three-metre synchro, the U.S. was first at 284.25, Brazil second at 283.08 while Victor Povzner of Maple, Ont. and Joshua Inglis of London were third at 282.39.

 

Megan Lupa of Beamville, Ont., took the bronze in the 12-13 one-metre with 247.95 points just ahead of Jordane Legault of St-Eustache, Que., the platform winner Friday, in fourth at 238.90.

 

On boys 11 and under platform, Arnaud Corbeil of Terrebonne, Que., was fourth and Dean Calfacacos of Pointe-Claire, Que., seventh.

 

Competition ends Sunday.
