TORONTO (August 10, 2022) – Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO) would like to congratulate Team Canada on its success at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, held in Birmingham, England. The Canadian Team delivered inspiring and captivating performances, bringing home 92 medals – 26 Gold, 32 Silver, 34 Bronze. Team Canada finished 3rd in the Total Medal Count at the Games.

Ontario athletes are bringing home 38 medals – 10 Gold, 12 Silver, 16 Bronze. Ontario athletes won an outstanding 42% of Team Canada’s medals at the Games.

CSIO affiliated athletes were also key contributors to Team Canada’s success at the Games, winning 31 medals – 10 Gold, 11 Silver, 10 Bronze.

CSIO Affiliated Athlete Highlights:

· Swimming Canada’s High Performance Centre Ontario athletes won a combined 16 medals at the Games

· Track Cyclist Kelsey Mitchell won 3 medals at the Games, including Silver in the Women’s Team Sprint with fellow CSIO affiliated athletes Lauriane Genest and Sarah Orban

· Team Canada was a powerhouse in the debut of Wheelchair Basketball on the Commonwealth programme (3×3 format) with the Women’s Team capturing Gold and the Men’s Team taking the Silver in their respective tournaments

· Sarah Mitton continued a phenomenal season with Gold in Women’s Shot Put

· Defending champions, Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes captured Gold in Women’s Beach Volleyball
