Taekwondo Canada – Early Bird registration open until August 18, more than 800 black belt athletes expected to compete

OTTAWA—The top black belt taekwondo athletes in the world will be heading to Montreal’s Complexe Sportif Claude-Robillard for the 2019 Canada Open and Canada Para Open, October 4-6.

The Canada Open is a World Taekwondo sanctioned event through PATU. World Taekwondo awarded the prestigious seventh annual international event to Taekwondo Canada, which is expected to attract more than 800 athletes in Kyorugi, Poomsae and Para Taekwondo from over 30 countries around the world, following a national bid process.   

“Montreal has a rich history in staging world class events. From the facilities and services available for the athletes to everything this amazing city has to offer, this event promises to be a memorable one for everyone involved,” said Carla Anderson, executive director, Taekwondo Canada, who added the event was held in Richmond, B.C. last year.

“Having the opportunity to host major events in all corners of the country is critical to the growth and future success of our sport across Canada. Eastern Canada is extremely passionate for all Olympic and Paralympic sports so I can’t think of any better place to showcase our premier international event than in Montreal.”

Athletes in youth (ages 10-11), cadet (12-14), junior (ages 15-17), and senior (ages 17+) will battle for prestigious points towards their world, Olympic and Paralympic rankings in Kyorugi, Poomsae and Para Taekwondo competition formats at the 2019 Canada Open, which will be staged in conjunction with Quebec Taekwondo Federation.
