Statement on the coaches’ situation

Ottawa, April 12, 2021 – Further to the statement made by CAS on March 17, 2021 with respect to the provisional suspension of two coaches as a result of information included in an application for a Class Action lawsuit, a report was made by CAS to the external, independent Safe Sport Officer to determine whether any actions would be taken against either coach within the context of the CAS safe sport process and specifically whether an investigation or complaint process would proceed.

In accordance with the CAS Discipline and Complaints Policy, the Safe Sport Officer conducted a preliminary inquiry and provided their report to the CAS Board of Directors. This inquiry included a full assessment of the policy, and communication with each complainant party and/or their legal representatives. During the course of the preliminary inquiry, none of the parties involved indicated that they were willing to proceed as a complainant in a safe sport investigation.

On this basis, the Safe Sport Officer, in accordance with their jurisdiction pursuant to the CAS Discipline and Complaints Policy, has not accepted the reported complaint and recommends no further action.

Based on the preliminary inquiry by the external, independent Safe Sport Officer, and its conclusion that the matter of safe sport complaints against Meng Chen and Leslie Sproule be closed, the CAS Board of Directors has determined that the current provisional suspensions of both coaches will be lifted with immediate effect.
