Rowing Canada Aviron – The 2019 Pan American Games regatta and the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships are set to get under way in what will be a busy week for Canada’s NextGen rowers.

Pan American Games racing will begin on August 6 at Albufera Medio Mundo in Huacho, Peru with heats and repechages, which will continue into August 7. Finals will take place August 8 to 10 before the multi-sport event wraps up with the Closing Ceremony on August 11.

Among those representing Canada in Peru is 2015 Pan American gold medallist Kate Haber (Owen Sound, ON), as well as a number of rowers who have had success at other international events, such as 2015 World U23 gold medallists Graham Peeters (Omemee, ON) and Matthew Finley (St. Catharines, ON) and 2014 Youth Olympic Games and World Juniors medallist Larissa Werbicki (Saskatoon, SK). Returning from injury is Trish Mara (Victoria, BC), who finished fourth in the Lightweight Women’s Quad at the 2017 World Championships.

A crew change will see Spencer Kielar (Guelph, ON) sub in for Alex Bernst (Ottawa, ON) just days after competing for Canada at the 2019 World Rowing U23 Championships.

Meanwhile, across the Pacific Ocean, Canada’s Junior team will be competing at the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships, which is taking place at the new Sea Forest Waterway in Tokyo, the venue the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Heats will take place August 7 to 8 (August 6 to 7 ET/PT), followed by repechages and semifinals scheduled for August 8 to 10 (August 7 to 9 ET/PT). The event concludes on August 11 (August 10 ET/PT) with the A Finals.

Included among the 16 athletes donning the maple leaf in Tokyo are Junior National Team returnees Lucy Black (Fredericton, NB), Claire Ellison (Halifax, NS), Maya Meschkuleit (Mississauga, ON) and Eden Cooper-Squires (Toronto, ON).
