TEAM CANADA AT THE 2019 WSF MEN’S WORLD SQUASH TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

Ottawa, ON (December 13, 2019) — The 2019 WSF Men’s World Squash Team Championships are fast approaching, and four of Canada’s best are preparing to compete against world’s top squash players from 23 different nations. For the first time in history, the 2019 Championships will take place in the United States of America, in the nation’s capital of Washington, DC from December 15-21, 2019.

The historic event dates back to 1967, when countries all over the world sent their strongest male players for an international showdown in Australia. Since then, the tournament has maintained its core purpose and traditions, taking place bi-annually and switching venues with each event. 
Team Canada consists of: Nick Sachvie, Shawn Delierre, Mike McCue, and David Baillargeon.

CANADA WELL-REPRESENTED AT UPCOMING SCOTTISH AND BRITISH JUNIOR OPENS

Canada will be well represented again this year at the upcoming Scottish and British Junior Open events. A total of 24 Canadians will be competing in Edinburgh, from December 28th-30th, 2019 for the Scottish Junior Open and Birmingham, from January 2nd-6th, 2020 for the British Junior Open. This is the second consecutive year that Squash Canada has helped to orchestrate this tour as part of a National strategy.

FIVE CANADIANS CAPTURE 2019 CANADIAN JUNIOR OPEN TITLES

Ottawa, ON (December 12, 2019) — After five days and 630 high-intensity matches, the 2019 Canadian Junior Open, held at The Club at White Oaks in Niagara-on-the Lake, ON, has come to an end. The prestigious tournament joined nearly 300 athletes from around the world, who left the event with valuable international experience and many fond memories that were made on and off court. It was a very successful event for our Canadian players, with 25 Canadians finishing in the top five of their respective age categories and making the host nation proud. 2019 US JUNIOR OPEN SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIPS WRAP-UP

After four days of intense competition, our Canadian players will be returning home from the 2019 U.S. Junior Open, held from December 14th to 17th at Harvard, MIT, Phillips Academy Andover, and Northeastern University, in the greater Boston area.

The event is one of the most prestigious junior tournaments in the world, known for the large number of participants, with the 2019 edition joining 762 players from 43 different countries.

Approximately 70 Canadians were in attendance, all displaying great performances in their respective categories and many achieving impressive final placements. Read More…

Code of Conduct Policy (Updated): Cannabis
Yes, it is legal in Canada, but just as all squashers should not participate under the influence of alcohol, the same applies to cannabis.
Squash Canada Code of Conduct has been amended to include prohibition of cannabis during participation by players, coaches, and officials.
Yes, cannabis is legal under the criminal code, but it is still on the WADA list of banned substances.

Squash Canada has developed the Squash Canada Concussion Protocol to help guide the management of athletes who may have a suspected concussion as a result of participation in Squash Canada activities.

Upcoming Canadian Championships

JUNIORS CORNER

Be Part of Team Canada at the 2020 Pan American Junior Championship
Squash Canada is pleased to announce the selection criteria for the 2020 Pan American Junior Championships that will be held will be held in San Salvador, El Salvador, from July 4 to 11, 2020.
This follows Canada’s successful hosting of this event in 2019 that saw the women’s team capture gold in the team event, on Brianna Jefferson’s exciting 5th game win in the final match. Canadians also captured a bronze in women’s singles and mixed doubles.
There’s lots of great squash at these championships. The event includes an individual event, a Teams event, a softball doubles event, and a softball mixed-doubles event (doubles events on a singles court). Parity and national pride prevail, as competitors from countries in North, Central and South American and the Caribbean make for a fierce battle.
Be part of the 4 junior men, 4 junior women Canadian Team! Players will need to cover their expenses. Selection is via an application process, which are due February 19, 2020.
