Sports Day the Girls Way
Presented by CAA
OSEG Foundation, in partnership with the City of Ottawa and Fast and Female, has invited 800 young girl sports leaders of tomorrow from across Ottawa to take part in Sports Day the Girls Way at TD Place.
Participants will hear from women Olympian, Paralympians, and high-profile athletes and take part in a number of sports-focused stations and activities, including soccer, ultimate frisbee, karate, and athletics. With a theme of COURAGE, sessions will focus on trying new sports and physical activity, promoting peer connections, fun and empowerment with mentorship from sport leaders in the community as well as Fast
and Female Role Models.
Sports Day the Girls Way is an interactive day to encourage, foster, and inspire young girls to be active and stay involved in sport. Retention of girls in sport is a key focus for the OSEG Foundation, City of Ottawa, and Fast and Female. Studies have repeatedly shown that during adolescence, girls drop out of sport at a significantly higher rate than boys – 41 per cent of girls between the ages of 3 and 17 don’t participate in sport, and as girls enter adolescence, their overall participation rate drops by 22 per cent.
