Sport Manitoba – Dec. 4, 2019 – Winnipeg, MB – Sport Manitoba Coaching has introduced a new award category for the Sport Manitoba Coaching Awards presented by Club Regent Casino & Event Centre that is named after late Manitoba curling athlete and coach, Janet Arnott. The awards take place on March 21, 2020 at 10 a.m. at the Club Regent Event Centre.
 
“These awards are about recognizing Manitoba’s coaches who have made a significant, unique impact in the lives of their athletes,” said Sport Manitoba President & CEO Jeff Hnatiuk. “Janet’s decades of contributions as an outstanding curler and coach exudes leadership and positive influence, and this new award will carry her name forward in a very memorable way.”
 
The Janet Arnott award In the Train to Train Athlete category is awarded to coaches who are responsible for athletes who compete at the Canada Games and National Championships.

“We are so excited to be able to name our new award after such an incredible woman,” said Sport Manitoba Coaching Manager Susan Lamboo. “She has inspired many athletes and coaches across Manitoba to pursue their passion in sport.”

The Major Award Categories for the Sport Manitoba Coaching Awards are:

  • Active Start/Fundamentals Athletes – Vince Leah Award
  • Learn to Train Athletes – Dr. Jack Hunt Award 
  • *NEW CATEGORY* Train to Train Athletes – Janet Arnott Award
  • Train to Compete-Train to Win Athletes – Peter Williamson Award 
  • School System Athletes – Peter Dick Award
  • Active for Life Athletes – Global News

The Recognition Award Categories for the Sport Manitoba Coaching Awards are:

  • Years of Service Recognition – Coaches who have dedicated a minimum of 25 years to coaching at any level. 
  • International Coach Recognition – Manitoba coaches who have coached at International Events in 2019. 

The voting will be conducted by a Selection Committee.

The nomination deadline is Sunday, December 15, 2019. Nominations are currently open to the public for all categories, and eligibility is for accomplishments during the 2019 calendar year.
