Canada’s most trusted partner in advancing sport knowledge, adds a Content Specialist and Manager of Communications to its staff

May 31, 2022

Ottawa – The Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC) is pleased to announce the recent hiring of two new members of its organization.

Having joined SIRC on April 25 as a Communications Manager, Ben Rycroft is a sport communications expert with nearly a decade of experience at Ontario Soccer – the largest provincial sport organization in Canada.

Rycroft’s background in digital, strategy and communications with Ontario Soccer will aid SIRC in expanding its digital presence and reaching more communities across Canada with its vast sport resources.

His digital background is complimented by a journalism career that spanned organizations such as the CBC, Rogers Sportsnet and Torstar Corporation.

“Ben has joined us from one of our provincial sport partners and brings with him a depth of knowledge on communicating in the sporting landscape. His addition will help SIRC continue to elevate itself as the leading sport knowledge and communication centre of Canada,” said Gassewitz.

Also joining SIRC, beginning on June 1, 2022, is Caela Fenton, who assumes the role of Content Specialist. Fenton recently completed her PhD at the University of Oregon where she has been actively engaged in the scholarly community for the past five years. Her PhD research focused on cultural studies of sport, specifically media representation of female athletes.

Fenton brings a mix of academic and real-world experience, having previously worked for TrackTown USA and their Olympic Trials Communications Team and as a staff writer with Canadian Running Magazine.

“Caela will be an excellent addition to our research staff. Under the leadership of Veronica Allan, they will continue to provide a credible voice for sport within Canada and ensuring our partners are equipped with latest, relevant information to lead their organizations,” said Debra Gassewitz, President and Chief Executive Officer of SIRC.
