CALGARY—Calgary youth will have a FREE opportunity to try more than 50 sports across the city for the first time at Sport Calgary’s All Sport One Day, June 15.

Sport Calgary, in partnership with more than 65 community sport organizations and 12 multi-sport venues, will open the doors for families of young Calgarians to register at www.allsportoneday.ca on June 4 at 6 p.m. MTN for a day of sport discovery.

“Sport Calgary is committed to breaking down barriers to provide all Calgarians, particularly our youth, the opportunity to live healthier and more active lives through sport and play,” said Catriona Le May Doan, president and chief executive officer, Sport Calgary. “Our goal through All Sport One Day is to encourage young Calgarians to enjoy a day of play while connecting them with sport organizations in our city’s facilities, ultimately helping them discover a new sporting passion.”

Parents and guardians of children aged 6 and above will have more than 200 sessions to choose from in a variety of winter and summer sports, including: soccer, basketball, volleyball, six different martial arts activities, climbing, fencing, curling, ringette, flag football, swimming, pickleball, disc golf, speed skating, cricket, and so much more. All sessions are led by certified instructors from community-based sport organizations focused on ensuring a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all skill levels and backgrounds. Many sessions are also adaptable for kids with cognitive or physical abilities.

“I personally experienced the power sport can have, as a young child and now as a mother to two kids. Sport and physical activities are fundamental for youth to learn new skills, boost confidence, build self- esteem,” added Le May Doan. “Sport, for the first time ever, was taken away from all of us during the pandemic and we have all seen the impact this had on the health of our communities – mentally, physically, and socially. All Sport One Day provides a FREE opportunity to rebuild healthier communities by getting our kids and families back into gymnasiums, pools, rinks, playgrounds, and trails.”

Sport Calgary has worked with its partners to run a variety of sessions at the following venues throughout the city:

  • Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton
  • Citadel Community Association
  • Genesis Centre & Saddletowne YMCA
  • Glenmore Athletic Park
  • Marlborough Park Community Association
  • MNP Community & Sports Centre
  • Trico Centre for Family Wellness
  • Southland Leisure Centre
  • University of Calgary
  • VIVO for Healthier Generations
  • Westside Rec Centre
  • Winsport

Parents are encouraged pre-register online to reserve spaces, but drop-in opportunities are also available on June 15. Everyone is welcome provided space is available.

Sport Calgary will run a second summer edition of the event on August 17, 2024.
