CALGARY—Officials from the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Calgary 2024 will join Law Enforcement officers for a dip into Arbour Lake, February 24 at 10 a.m. for the 2024 Calgary Polar Plunge on the eve of Games week.
One of the Calgary Games five Special Olympics Ambassadors presented by Pembina, Leonka, will brave the frigid water while taking the plunge with Gail Hamamoto, Chief Executive Officer, Special Olympics Canada along with Karen Dommett, General Manager, of the Games which are slated for Calgary.
The Polar Plunge is a winter fundraising event where individuals jump into the freezing cold water in the middle of winter in hopes of securing donations in support of Special Olympics.
This year’s Polar Plunge in Calgary is part of the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Law Enforcement Torch Run. Starting February 23, officers will carry the Flame of Hope to 12 Alberta communities, stopping at community celebrations, schools and unique events like the Polar Plunge. The completion off the run will see officers and athletes carry the Flame of Hope to the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Calgary 2024, February 27. The Games will be held through to March 2.
