Softball Athlete Suspended for the Presence of Cocaine 

Ottawa – December 7, 2022 – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) announced today that Devon McCullough, a softball athlete, received a three-month sanction for an anti-doping rule violation. The athlete’s urine sample, collected during in-competition doping control on August 31, 2022, revealed the presence of cocaine, a prohibited stimulant.

Cocaine is classified as a “substance of abuse” on the World Anti-Doping Agency 2022 Prohibited List. If an athlete can establish that a substance of abuse was used out of competition and was not related to sport performance, the period of ineligibility is three months. The CCES assessed the relevant facts and proposed a three-month period of ineligibility.
