Rémi Aubin named Team Canada Flag Bearer for Closing Ceremonies at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games

OTTAWA, ON (December 10, 2021) Following two weeks of competition in Cali, Colombia, trampoline gymnast Rmi Aubin was tapped on the shoulder to be one of two Team Canada Flag Bearer for the events closing ceremonies on December 5.

Four gymnasts represented Canada among 31 Canadian athletes ages 15 to 22 years old in Cali, Colombia for the Junior Pan American Games. The competition began on November 25, where gymnast Aurlie Tran was named a Team Canada Flag Bearer for the events opening ceremonies. Throughout the competition, Team Canada competed in 39 sports, bringing home 10 medals.

For many, this was one of the first opportunities to compete internationally amidst the continued challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. For gymnasts, the in-person competition experience is a critical element of athlete development. We look forward to more in-person competition opportunities in 2022.

In addition to being one of the Team Canada Flag Bearers during the opening ceremonies, Aurlie Tran captured two medals during the womens artistic gymnastics competitions.  Tran came home with a silver medal on the uneven bars during the Apparatus Finals and a bronze medal in the WAG Individual Overall.

Mathys Jalbert competed in the Mens Artistic Gymnastics competitions finishing 16th overall with a total score of 72.000.  Gabriella Flynn competed in the Womens Trampoline Gymnastics competition finishing in 7th the Individual Finals after qualifying 5th.

Rmi Aubin qualified 1st overall in the Mens Trampoline Gymnastics competition with a total score of 103.120. In the finals, he finished in 8th place. Team Canada tapped Rmi to represent Canada during the closing ceremonies as one of two Flag Bearers alongside Yamina Lahyanssa (Karate).

We asked Rmi to share his thoughts on his experience at the Games, I really enjoyed my first experience competing with Team Canada, despite my performance in the final, the competition was very rewarding. Being named Flag Bearer was a great opportunity, I am happy to have been chosen because it shows my love for the sport and my work ethic.

Congratulations to Team Canada for excellent results during the 2021 Junior Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia. The Games are an opportunity for athletes of the Americas to continue their development as they aspire to one day compete at the Pan American Games and Olympic Games. The next Pan American Games will be in 2023 in Santiago, Chile.
