Raw. Resilient. Real. SPOHOXTM Speakers Ready to Challenge in Regina

The Spo Ho XperienceTM tradition of speakers who challenge their listeners and encourage uncomfortable conversations will continue in Regina, Saskatchewan on October 29 &30.

In just its third edition SPOHOXTM has become known for building a community where diverse opinions are encouraged and fresh perspectives are expected. Every session is designed to spark real dialogue, draw out the expertise in the room, and give every attendee a voice in the conversation.

This year’s two keynote speakers will be raw and real. Erika Casupanan, the Canadian winner of the reality TV series Survivor 41 (Fiji), was both vulnerable and victorious when she emerged as the sole survivor in front of millions on TV. Now, the lessons she learned as a Filipino immigrant navigating the corporate world fuel her passion for empowering underrepresented groups and overlooked experiences. After coming out at the age of 34, she encourages self-compassion and empathy for other queer late bloomers and allies.

A survivor of a different type, Lucas Arsenault is a professional kiteboarder, national champion, and internationally recognized athlete from PEI. A life-altering shark attack last spring tested every ounce of his strength, resilience and will to live. Lucas will share how he has embraced the challenge of adapting to his injuries, embracing them head-on and proving that adversity can be the foundation of an even greater comeback. He will remind SPOHOXers that true strength comes from how we rise after the fall.

Emcee for the two-days is Regina Radio & Television personality Sabeen Ahmad; known for her deep commitment to community and her passion for connecting with people through storytelling. She is a tireless advocate for mental health and women’s initiatives and will bring her talents to encourage and engage thought-provoking conversations.

Headlining the first of three Spo Ho X Power Plays™  where the sport tourism community showcases a best practice or success story is Brendan Matthews, VP of Business Development with Canada Snowboard. He has expanded Canada Snowboard’s Major Events properties with innovative ideas that have taken the brand to non-traditional, urban markets, and aligned brands with the dynamic, youth-driven snowboarding culture.

Other elements of SPHOX25TM include the Spo Ho Scrum™ where things get awkward, magical, or a bold mix of both as The Players tackle the hottest issues shaping sport hosting today. It’s 5 rounds of spicy, interactive 30-minute discussions where no topic is off-limits and no idea is too bold.

The Skillz Competition™ & Dinner feeds the competitive nature of this group of sport tourism pros as Players mix, mingle and take on inventive sport-inspired challenges in a team atmosphere.

The Spo Ho X™ Field Trips is an experiential tour of off-site venues that uncovers hidden aspects of Regina and inspires other destinations to reinvent their own venues and spaces.

Stay tuned – because we’re not done yet! New speakers, topics, and surprise elements are being added in real-time.
