Positive for COVID-19, Laurent Dubreuil retires from World Championship

HAMAR, NORWAY  With just hours to go before the start of day two of the World Speed Skating Championships in Norway, we received the bad news that Laurent Dubreuil has tested positive for COVID-19.

Dubreuil underwent three tests this morning: two PCRs and a CT Value Test. Unfortunately, the CT values were too low for the ISU doctors to allow him to skate.

It is with immense disappointment that I announce my withdrawal from the World Championship due to a positive COVID test this morning. I have continued to follow all possible distancing measures, but was just very unlucky. It will be extremely difficult to watch the rest of the World Championship after finishing the first day in the top spot, but I wish good luck to all the remaining skaters.” – Laurent Dubreuil

MEDIA AVAILABILITY
Dubreuil will be available to speak with the media today (Friday, March 4) at noon EST. No other interviews will be given outside of this availability.
