Diving Canada – It’s crazy to think, but at 22 years-old, Beaconsfield, Que.’s Vincent Riendeau is by far the oldest partner on Canada’s men’s 10m synchronized platform team.

But age didn’t matter on Friday, as Riendeau, and his 16 year-old teammate Nathan Zsombor-Murray, of Pointe-Claire, Que. won the silver medal in the final of the 10m synchro at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.

“It’s pretty impressive I don’t think I was at that level at 16,” said Riendeau about Zsombor-Murray, “He’s a good competitor, he’s strong mentally too and I think we both learn from each other a little bit every competition and we have good chemistry.”

The Canadians pulled together 396.12 points for second-place, behind Mexico’s Ivan Garcia Navarro and Kevin Berlin Reyes who scored 431.10 points.

Isaac Nascimento De Souza and Kawan Figueredo Pereira, of Brazil, won the bronze medal with 375.81 points.

“I think we’re both quite happy with this, our first Games together, coming out with a medal is amazing, it’s not our best score but we pulled off a pretty consistent list,” said Riendeau, a 2016 Olympian.

Zsombor-Murray is at his first Pan American Games, “It feels great, first Games, first competition of my first Games, I feel pretty accomplished with a silver medal, and happy, and all in all it’s a great experience, it’s a lot of fun to be here,” he said.

On Saturday, Day 3 of the diving competition in Peru, Canada’s Meaghan Benfeito and Caeli McKay will take on the women’s 10m synchro platform, while their teammates, Philippe Gagné and François Imbeau-Dulac will challenge the men’s 3m synchro springboard.
