HALIFAX—For just the second time in the program’s 18-year history, Own the Podium will bring its annual SPort INnovation (SPIN) Summit to Halifax, Nova Scotia, December 5-8.

Own the Podium, a not-for-profit organization that supports national sport organizations in achieving their performance goals, will team up with the Canadian Sport Institute Atlantic to bring the prestigious three-day conference for sport science and innovation to the east coast.

“We look forward to bringing Canada’s premiere event for sports scientists, medical professionals and innovators to Halifax – a province recognized for its athletic success and world-leading sports science programs that have serve Canada’s Atlantic region,” said Dr. Andy Van Neutegem, Vice-President of Performance Sciences, Research & Innovation, Own the Podium. 

Created in 2005 to merge the art of coaching with the science of sport in an effort to support Canada’s athletes and coaches in the pursuit of their performance goals, SPIN is Canada’s cutting-edge symposium for professional development and networking in the areas of applied sport science, sport medicine, and innovation.

Halifax previously hosted the event in 2007. 

“The CSI Atlantic is thrilled to be named as the host of the 2023 SPIN Summit.  Not only will we have some of the top performance science experts and innovators from across the country but we will also be able to provide opportunities for local experts, coaches and students to interact and learn from our country’s best,” said Ken Bagnell, President and CEO of CSI Atlantic. The SPIN Summit showcases sport experts from around Canada and the globe who will lead two full days of applied workshops while providing hands-on, professional development opportunities, and help additional build knowledge and skills to support Olympic and Paralympic sport success through applied scientific research.

Spin Summit will be held at The Westin Nova Scotian. Located in the Halifax Seaport District and minutes from Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, Scotiabank Centre, and Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market.

The online registration to SPIN Summit 2023 will open on July 17, 2023. Make sure to register by September 22, 2023, to benefit from the early bird rate.
