Ontario Soccer Reinforcing Leadership Stability with Re-Election of Four Key Board Members

At Ontario Soccer’s 124th Annual Meeting of the Members, Matt Williams (Ottawa, Ontario), Alice Strachan (Georgetown, Ontario), David Zbar (Toronto, Ontario) and Solomon Amoako (Thornhill, Ontario) were re-elected into the vacant positions.

Vaughan, Ontario – Ontario Soccer hosted its 124th Annual Meeting of the Members on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites in Mississauga. This year’s meeting marked another important chapter in the organization’s governance, with several key Board positions having been up for election.

Under Ontario Soccer’s governance structure, the Board of Directors is composed of 12 elected individuals supported by the Chief Executive Officer. The 18 District Soccer Associations, represented by the Voting Members Council, play a central role in shaping the future of the game in Ontario.

“The Elections today went very well,” said Alan O’Brien, Chair of Ontario Soccer’s Board of Directors. “People were engaged and prepared, and proceedings went smoothly. It was a good day.”

Four Board Positions were contested in Ontario Soccer’s 2025 Elections:

  • Regional Director – South (1 vacancy, 3-year term)
  • Regional Director – East (1 vacancy, 3-year term)
  • Independent Director (2 vacancies, each for a 3-year term)

The Nominations Committee received one application for the South Regional Director position, two applications for the East Regional Director position, and six applications for the Independent Director roles. Voting Members casted their ballots during the Annual Meeting, with results having been announced shortly after.

For the position of Regional Director – East, the Voting Members re-elected Matt Williams. Running unopposed, Alice Strachan will return to her role as Regional Director – South.

For the position of Independent Director, the Voting Members re-elected David Zbar and Solomon Amoako who will serve an additional three-year term.

“Next year is a big year,” added Mr. O’Brien. “There’s the big tournament coming next summer and it’s Ontario Soccer’s 125th anniversary. But the thing I’m looking forward to the most is the beginning of our ongoing Strategic Plan, where we start to look at our future, consulting with Membership on where we should be going in order to develop a new plan for the next number of years that takes us forward.”

Under its governance structure, Ontario Soccer is led by a Board of Directors, composed of 12 elected individuals supported by a senior executive, the Chief Executive Officer.

The 18 District Soccer Associations, who are the “Voting Members,” are represented by a Voting Members Council. The Council is composed of the President, or designate representing each District Association in Ontario and it submits recommendations to the Ontario Soccer Board of Directors and the Chief Executive Officer on a number of game related matters.
