ON THE ROAD TO THE 2020 NORTH AMERICAN INDIGENOUS GAMES:
ATHLETE INSTITUTE AND INDIGENOUS SPORT & WELLNESS ONTARIO PARTNER TO HOST TEAM ONTARIO TRYOUTS FOR INDIGENOUS YOUTH

WHAT:
ISWO, (the designated Provincial/Territorial Aboriginal Sport Body for
Ontario) in partnership with the Athlete Institute, will host an
official Team Ontario basketball tryout on Saturday, January 11, for
both male and female athletes in the following NAIG
sanctioned age categories: 19U, 16U and 14U, in preparation for the
upcoming 2020 North American Indigenous Games. Players from around the
province will be able to learn from Athlete Institute coaches, enhance
their skills and begin to develop a sense of where
basketball can take them.
The Athlete Institute and Indigenous Sport & Wellness Ontario (ISWO)
announced their partnership this past December, with the aim of
developing the great game of basketball for the Indigenous youth of
Ontario. The partnership brings together Canada’s leading
basketball development program and the designated
Provincial/Territorial Aboriginal Sport Body (P/TASB) for Ontario, to
host regional and provincial tournaments, tryouts for national and
international sport events, develop passionate coaches and create player
pathways, camps, clinics and programming.

Athlete Institute, located in Orangeville, ON, is Canada’s leading
high-performance sport development facility and is world renowned for
it’s preparatory Basketball Academy which has helped develop 73
post-secondary basketball student-athletes since 2012. Most
notably our alumni include 5 NBA players, Jamal Murray (Denver
Nuggets), Thon Maker (Detroit Pistons), Ignas Brazdeikis (NY Knicks),

sq. ft Training Centre, a 12,000 sq. ft Fieldhouse, a 24,000 sq. ft
Sports Dome with turf field, residence with 100 beds, a commercial
kitchen, physiotherapy clinic, Pilate and yoga studio and outdoor soccer
field and basketball courts.
