AthletesCAN – (Ottawa, ON – June 26, 2019) Last September, AthletesCAN, in partnership with CBC Sports, hosted the 41st Canadian Sport Awards in Ottawa, ON – a revival four years in the making. This iconic awards show was first established 46 years ago to showcase excellence in Canadian sport and quickly evolved to become the premier event for national sport achievement and leadership recognition.

The 2018 Sport Awards honoured 18 winners from 4 categories: Sport Performance, Influencers, Corporate Excellence and People’s Choice. Staple awards from past additions were preserved while new awards were added that honour today’s diverse sport leadership landscape, including the Inclusion Award – Obliterating Barriers in Sport, the #AthleteVoice Award – Rep of the Year, and the People’s Choice Performance Award. Canadian athletes from the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, took the majority of top performance awards.

Today, AthletesCAN is pleased to announce its call for nominations for the 42nd Canadian Sport Awards, which will award commitment, performance and leadership in sport, recognizing accomplishments in the 2018-2019 season as outlined in the CSA Guidelines.

“It is our goal to engage Canadians across the country and build a unique celebration which honours our athletes and sport leaders at all levels,” says Dasha Peregoudova, AthletesCAN President. “We’re proud to ensure the tradition of the Canadian Sport Awards continues, providing a platform to share the stories of greatness, determination, selflessness, and persistence in the face of grueling obstacles that sport can create. We encourage Canadians, both in the sport system and beyond, to nominate their sporting heroes for their passion, achievement and leadership contributions to sport and society.”

The nomination period has been extended to June 30^th, 2019. The Summer Performance Awards nomination deadline will be extended to September 3, 2019 to include results from the Lima 2019 Pan and Parapan American Games. Finalists for each CSA award will be announced over the summer. Winners will be announced September 2019.
