Nomination Process for The 44th Canadian Sport Awards Now Open!

August 30, 2021 – Today, AthletesCAN is pleased to announce its call for nominations for the 44th Canadian Sport Awards. This year’s awards will honour the spirit, drive, leadership and commitment of Canada’s international level athletes, coaches, volunteers, and leaders in sport related accomplishments between August 2020 and September 2021.

The Canadian Sport Awards were established 49 years ago in 1972 by modern day co-founders True Sport, Canadian Centre for Ethics and Sport, Canada Games Council, Commonwealth Sport Canada, and AthletesCAN to recognize and showcase excellence in Canadian sport. Since then, the Canadian Sport Awards evolved over time to become the premier recognition event for national sporting excellence. After the 40th anniversary, the awards experienced a five-year hiatus. In 2017, AthletesCAN successfully acquired the rights to revive this staple event to once again bring together members of the sport community to honour the spirit, drive, and commitment of Canada’s international level athletes, coaches, volunteers, and sport leaders. Past recipients include including Canadian sport icons Donovan Bailey, Chantal Petitclerc, Hayley Wickenheiser, Mark Tewksbury, Tessa Virtue, Scott Moir, Simon Whitfield, and Catriona Le May Doan, among many others.

The 2021 Canadian Sport Awards will honour recipients from 5 award categories including AthletesCAN Social Resonsibility Award, True Sport Awards, #AthleteVoice – Rep of the Year, Bruce Kidd Leadership Award, and People’s Choice Most Viral Moment. The nomination period begins today and closes on November 8, 2021. Finalists and recipients for each award will be announced in December.

“It is our goal to engage Canadians across the country and build a unique celebration which honours our athletes and sport leaders at all levels,” says Pierre-Luc Laliberté, AthletesCAN President. “We’re proud to ensure the tradition of the Canadian Sport Awards continues, providing a platform to share the stories of greatness, determination, selflessness, and persistence in the face of grueling obstacles that sport can create. We encourage Canadians, both in the sport system and beyond, to nominate their sporting heroes for their passion, achievement and leadership contributions to sport and society.”
