NFL Canada’s weekly Way to Play award bigger in 2022

September 22, 2022 – NFL Canada is proud to announce the return of ‘The NFL Way to Play Award” for high school football programs across Canada.

The NFL Way to Play Award highlights proper playing techniques to protect players from unnecessary risk and fosters culture change across all levels of the sport.

In partnership with Hudl and in its second year, the NFL Canada Way to Play Award will honour one high school football player weekly for demonstrating exceptional in-game playing technique. The high school award recipient will be announced on NFL on CTV Live each Sunday, and the school of each honoree will receive from the NFL Canada a $3,000 equipment grant through Football Canada.

“We are so excited to expand our NFL Way to Play program this season, recognizing high school football players across Canada who demonstrate incredible and safe on-field performance. We are pleased to be working closely with Football Canada on this important initiative, and know that high school game in Canada has a bright future”, said David Thomson, VP and Managing Director for the NFL in Canada.

“Football Canada is pleased to work across all parts of the country to support NFL Canada in a project that assists the growth of the High School game while promoting safety,” Football Canada president Jim Mullin said.

The NFL Way to Play educational curriculum, which focuses on teaching coaches and players proper techniques, drill selection, and tips to excel at each position, was developed by a select group of NFL Legends coaching across all levels of the game. Please view the playbook curriculum and educational videos shared with youth and high school programs nationwide. Additional videos can be found on the Play Football YouTube channel.
