Men’s Under-23 Roster unveiled for Americas Championship

(OTTAWA, ONT.) – Wheelchair Basketball Canada announced Tuesday that twelve athletes have been selected for the Men’s Under-23 roster for the 2025 IWBF Men’s U23 Americas Championship in Bogotá, Colombia.

The roster features eight athletes which represented Canada at the Kitakyushu Champions Cup in November. Matthew Wilton is the lone returning member from the 2022 IWBF Men’s Under-23 World Championship in Phuket, Thailand.

“The U23 team features some of the most promising up-and-coming wheelchair basketball athletes in the country,” said U23 Head Coach Darrell Nordell. “In Bogotá, we’ll be put to
the test against top competition from Brazil, the USA, and Colombia. These athletes have been training relentlessly with their provincial, collegiate, and local club programs to ensure a strong performance. For some, the Americas Championship will mark their first international experience, and we’re eager to showcase their talent on this stage.

“I’m thrilled to be coaching alongside Matteo Feriani and Christina LaSerra, with team therapist Paul Murata and manager Hailey Roll rounding out our staff.”

The Americas Championship serves as the qualifier for the 2025 IWBF Men’s U23 World Championship. Canada will compete against Brazil, Colombia, and the U.S. with two World Championship qualification spots up for grabs.
