Master’s Women Bring 1st Adult Gold Medal to Manitoba in 40Years at the Canadian Ball Hockey Nationals

Team Manitoba Legends won gold in the Master’s (34+) division to win the 1st adult gold medal for Manitoba in 40 years. Led by CBHA hall of famer Shelley Cockerill and perennial Team Canada player Chantal Fritzche-Laroque Team Manitoba Legends won in the second overtime period on a goal by Shelley. The win capped off a fantastic week of ball hockey action hosted in Winnipeg.

In the other divisions the Manitoba had some success and some disappointment. In the Men’s Legends division (44+) Team Manitoba led by coach Pino Pisano lost in the gold medal game to capture a silver. In the Men’s Master’s Division, the team spear headed by Craig Malaschuk and Ray Cook won the Bronze Medal. In the A Men’s and Women’s, the two young and up and coming teams both finished out of the medals despite fairly strong performances throughout the round robin.

Games were played at Scotia Bank Hockey For All Centre, Notre Dame Arena, and Keith Bodley.
