March 27, 2025 (Halifax, NS)– Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce the Cleve’s Source for Sports March Impact Award Recipients: Melanie MacDermid (Volunteer), Milo Sircom-Brown (Male Athlete), Emma Archibald (Female Athlete), and Rosemary Algar (Coach).
Female Athlete: Emma Archibald, Cross Country Ski
Achievements: Emma competed in two FIS Para Cross Country World Cups in Italy last month. She is one of the youngest skiers in the field and puts up outstanding results against experienced international athletes. She is a trailblazer for para-Nordic cross-country skiing in Nova Scotia. She is the first para–Nordic Nova Scotian skier to be a member of the provincial cross-country ski team, the National Para Nordic World Cup Team, the National Development Para Nordic Team, and the University of Ottawa Nordic Team.
Male Athlete: Milo Sircom-Brown, Cross Country Ski
Achievements: Milo competed at the FIS 2025 Eastern Championships Canada Cup at Mont-Saint-Anne last month. He finished 16th in the U20 Male, 10km Mass Start Classique technique in a highly competitive field against the top cross-country skiers in Eastern Canada.
Coach: Rosemary Algar, Cross Country Ski
Achievements: Rosemary is one of Nova Scotia’s longest volunteer cross-country skiing coaches, with more than 30 years of coaching at North Highlands Nordic (NHN). She founded the Bunny Rabbit program at NHN, a ten-week program for kids ages four to five that includes weekly lessons, trail safety, craft activities, and equipment education. Rosemary teaches her students through play, where skills are taught through games. Her commitment to the sport and creating a fun environment is heard in kids’ laughter throughout the trails.
Volunteer: Melanie MacDermid, Cross Country Ski
Achievements: Melanie is the current president of Scotia XC Ski Club (SXC), marking her third year in the role. SXC is Nova Scotia’s largest club, with membership ranging from 350 to 800 members and more than 40 km across seven trail systems. Melanie performs her leadership with the utmost diplomacy, enthusiasm, and dedication to the betterment of the sport. She has contributed countless hours to governance and partnership development, contributing to the growth of the sport provincially and nationally.
