Manitoba Archer Wins Second U.S. Collegiate National Championship

Archery Manitoba congratulates provincial team member Austin Taylor for winning his second U.S. Collegiate National championship in 3D archery and the entire Lindsey Wilson College team for taking second place Saturday, Oct. 5.

Taylor, 24, of Winnipeg, fought from seventh place on a soggy first day (Friday, Oct. 4) to finish in a tie for points (452) with Day 1 leader Colton Green from the University of Rio Grande. Taylor edged into first on the strength of shooting one more bonus ring than Green.

The U.S. Collegiate National 3D Championships are shot using Archery Shooters Association rules, shooting at replicas of animals at a variety of distances. A top score on a target is 12 points, known as a bonus ring, down to five points for hitting almost anywhere on the animal. Archers shoot 20 targets each round, for a maximum score of 480 points. A record 420 archers from 29 schools participated in the event.

At the Saturday evening banquet, Taylor, along with Lindsey Wilson teammates T Sanchez and Anna Krampe, also won first place in the mixed equipment eliminations. Taylor, shooting a compound bow, Sanchez, shooting an Olympic recurve bow and Krampe, shooting a compound bow in the bowhunter classification, went undefeated through four elimination rounds to claim gold.

Taylor, a graduate of Kildonan-East Collegiate, began studying at the college in south-central Kentucky in 2019, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business in 2023 and is continuing his studies remotely for a master’s degree.
