Diving Canada – Canada’s Lysanne Richard delivered four consistent dives at the FINA High Diving World Cup, held in Zhaoqing, China, on May 25th and 26th.

After the preliminary round, the 37-year-old Montrealer was in 5th place with 141.40 points. “My two dives were not to the best of my abilities, but I didn’t make any huge mistakes. My average scores were 7 and 7.5 and I know I can do better,” said Richard.

The judges went on and awarded her 7.5s and 8.0s on her last two dives, placing her 4th overall with a cumulative score of 296.10 points, just 2.05 points away from the third position.

“I was able to come back strong and I’m happy with my last dives,” she added. “I know what I need to work on next, and it’s looking very good for me going into World Championships in July.”

The victory went to Rhiannan Iffland of Australia (328.85), while Jacqueline Valente of Brazil grabbed silver (309.75). Mexico’s Adriana Jimenez landed on the third step of the podium (298.15).

Richard had previously won the FINA High Diving World Cup in 2016 and, after a difficult season in 2017 due to a neck injury, succeeded in securing a silver medal in 2018.

Canada was also represented by Aimee Harrison, from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The 24-year-old, who is a former member of the Canadian diving team, finished 13th with 233.10 points. The 2019 World Cup was Harrison’s first appearance at an international high-diving event.

“It was great to be here as a team. I’m very proud of Aimee, she really did well for someone who was competing for the first time internationally at the World Cup level,” concludes Lysanne Richard.
