National Health and Fitness Day, Saturday June 3rd, 2023

Ottawa (Ontario, June 1) – Organizations across Canada are offering events and ideas for fun, outdoor physical activity to celebrate this year’s National Health and Fitness Day on Saturday June 3.

National Health and Fitness Day is an initiative held annually on the first Saturday in June to encourage Canadians to get out and get active in any way they can.

Senator Marty Deacon, a long-time advocate for physical and mental health says, “Everyone can be a champion for physical activity and share their creative ways to get moving! How about trying a new activity, maybe call up a friend to join you for a walk, a hike, or a bike ride? Choose something that you enjoy and gets you out enjoying nature in the great summer weather.”

Canadians are invited to share photos or videos of themselves being active or enjoying the outdoors with family and friends. Images and social media posts are available to help promote the day.

It is important to remind Canadians of the many ways to be active. Movement is essential to the health and well-being of all Canadians. Let’s Move Canada! Bougeons Canada!

About National Health and Fitness Day

After years of working with local community groups and national health promotion organizations to review ways of improving health and fitness in Canada, Senator Nancy Greene Raine saw passage of Bill S-211, the National Health and Fitness Day Act, in December 2014.  The passage of the Bill creates a strong impetus towards bringing communities together every year on the first Saturday in June, to highlight the importance of Health and Fitness.

Currently hundreds of municipalities across the country from east to west to north have proclaimed the day and are planning to celebrate the day by encouraging people to get up, get out and get active! Let’s Move Canada!
