Kayla Batchilder and Luc Doucette named UPEI Panther Source for Sports Athletes of the Week

Charlottetown, PEI (September 23, 2025)—Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Source for Sports Athletes of the Week for September 16–22 are Kayla Batchilder (women’s field hockey) and Luc Doucette (men’s cross country).

Batchilder is a third-year kinesiology student from Charlottetown, PEI. She wasted no time making her mark on the new season, lighting up the Atlantic University Field Hockey tournament which was held at UPEI with eight goals across four games on September 20 and 21.

“Kayla played an instrumental role in our attack all weekend, not only with her goal scoring but also by generating many other opportunities for the team,” said UPEI Women’s Field Hockey head coach Lacey MacLauchlan.

Doucette is a first-year arts student from Charlottetown, PEI. His stellar season continued at the Dalhousie University Invitational in Halifax on September 20, where he clocked in at 25:49, finishing second by mere milliseconds.

“Luc continues to run well. He is working hard, logging some big mileage and some tough workouts,” said UPEI Men’s Cross Country head coach Mike Peterson. “The key will be to make sure he peaks at the right time in the meets that really count. I am proud of all three of our guys who cracked the top ten this weekend, as Joel Gallant finished fourth and Jack Roberts sixth.”
